Biking Along Pennsylvania's Youghiogheny River Trail, North Section

This 43-mile trail is beautiful and fantastic. The surface is hard-packed crushed limestone. It runs from Connellsville to McKeesport, following the Youghiogheny River (pronounced yock-ah-GAIN-ee, and typically called "the Yough") to where it merges with the Monongahela River.

On this trail you ride through open country and through small towns. There is a beautiful little park, Cedar Creek Park, along the trail that has picnic tables under large shade trees right beside the river. On a really hot day, it's like an oasis. There are lots of pleasant places to stop and beautiful sights to see; it's well worth the ride.

The trail joins the Youghiogheny River Trail, South Section, at Connellsville and is part of a trail network that will eventually go from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC (180 miles!). For further information, see: Copyright 2007, All Rights Reserved
