Bicycling in South Eastern West Virginia
This 75-mile trail gives you a true taste of "Wild,
Wonderful West Virginia!" It parallels the Greenbrier
River from North Caldwell to Cass. The surface was
original ballast when we rode it; however, I've been told the
following by the person in charge of trail maintenance:
"(West Virginia) State Parks invest $100,000 a year into the trail and we have
than $10, 000 in the last two years alone to improve trail surfacing.
We currently have packed limestone over the entire trail, there are
several miles where the fines have settled and gravel is loose but there
is no ballast stone remaining on the trail." This information was
dated June 28, 2004.
This can only mean that this could be one of the most scenic trails
in the USA, and one to be placed at the top of your "Trails-to-Ride" list.
For more information on the trail, see
Greenbrier River Trail ,
a non profit organization which promotes the trail.
